Family Owned - Environmentally Friendly - Naturally Raised Beef
MiBek Farms is family owned and produces natural beef and perennial peanut hay using environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices. Michael and Becky Worrell initiated the farm to return to their roots in production agriculture and to give their children, Kelsey and Garrett, the opportunity to develop a greater appreciation for their heritage.
Michael and Becky grew up working on farms that were heavily involved in animal agriculture. While at the University of Florida obtaining their degrees in agriculture, both were members of the Livestock Judging Team and competed against other similar college teams in the southeast. Becky also competed on the UF Meats Judging Team, learning to grade and evaluate beef, lamb and pork. After graduation, Becky became a vocational agriculture teacher and Michael continued his studies until receiving his doctorate (University of Nebraska, 1985) in the field of animal science (ruminant nutrition). He subsequently joined the faculty at Clemson University.
While at Clemson, Michael’s interest and research focused on evaluating new varieties of forage species and improving cattle grazing efficiencies. This interest led the Worrell Family to New Zealand as Michael took sabbatical leave to study forages and grazing management at Massey University.
In an entrepreneurial leap of courage and faith, Michael and Becky started MiBek Farms in 2001. The education and knowledge gained over the years is now being applied at our family farm to produce “Certified South Carolina Grown” farm products: Natural Pasture Raised Beef and Perennial Peanut Hay.
